History Always Repeats

David Eells

History and the Word of God are plain: "That which hath been is that which shall be; and that which hath been done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun" (Eccl.1:9-11 [see also Mt.5:17,18; Rom.15:4; 1 Cor.10:11]).

Did God's people "all fly away" and escape the Egyptian beast or the Assyrian, Babylonian, Media Persian, Grecian, or Roman beasts? Did they not go through those tribulations to be delivered of their apostasies (falling away)?

When they left Egypt, did they jump straight into the promised land; or did they have to go through a baptism unto death in the Red Sea (1 Cor.10:2) and then through the trial (tribulation) in the wilderness (1 Cor.10:1-13) to purge out the rebels and the mixed multitudes (half-Christians)?

God being on the throne, will not history repeat itself? Remember that through much tribulation must we enter the kingdom of God (Acts 14:22 [see also Jn.16:33 / 1 Thes.3:3 / 2 Tim.3:12]). "Let God be true and every man a liar, as it is written, that thou mightest be justified (called righteous) in thy words, and mightest prevail when thou comest into judgment". 2 Thes. 1:4,5 says that persecutions and afflictions which ye endure are a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God to the end that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer.

God's people have always grown stronger through tribulation but more apathetic in prosperity.
