Bethany Thrift - 12/30/2010 Yesterday, our five-year-old son got hold of a rubber exercise band and was upstairs playing with it. I heard a big scream and he had gotten slapped in both eyes with the handle. He was screaming, "My eyes!" He was very hurt and could not open his eyes. When I finally pried one open I could see that blood had filled the iris, all the way from the bottom to around the pupil. I cringed at the sight and was scared! I got him a wet cloth and rushed to the computer to Google "blood in pupil/eye injury" and found out it's called a "hyphema" when blood is seen in the eyeball and that immediate medical care is necessary. I was pretty shaken up and was making Levi upset, too. I got out the phone book, called the pediatrician but he was out for the next three hours and my husband wasn't answering his cell phone. Plus, my husband had our family car 30 miles away at work. So, no one was available. I was at home with five children and a sleeping baby. So, I thought, well, here is my wilderness. What I am going to do when these things happen and we can't go to a doctor? So then faith took hold of me and I became aware that this was a trial of my faith. I commanded Levi's eye to be healed in the name of Jesus and told Levi that Jesus already healed him and he was all better. Levi repeated after me, "Jesus healed me. Thank you, Jesus". He became calm and ran off to play. My husband and I had peace about the situation and decided that we would not take him to the ER. Throughout the evening, we saw that the blood was descending to the bottom part of the iris. And this morning he has no blood in his pretty hazel eyes. Praise be to the Lord!
