Learn to Listen, Save Your Life
Learn to Listen, Save Your Life
Sandy Shaw - 12/16/18
Transcribed by Don and Merlene Laughlin
(David’s notes in Red)
(audio)
The way this dream started I felt like I was watching a movie. There
were two men that are brothers, one is a Christian and one is not.
They are in the woods and it looks like a weekend camping trip. They
also had two boys who were cousins about twelve.
The boys were getting ready and the two men were having a
discussion. “Why is it that every time I call you, you always say
you’re in the word or praying?” And the answer from the other
brother is, “Because I am.”
Then he said, “Can’t you do anything else?” The other answered,
“Well, watching TV is a waste of time and I’m doing other things.
I’m right here with you, right now.”
The boys had the kayak in the water. One of the boys sees the life
jackets, “shouldn't we put these on?” The other said, “No, it
constricts me.” So they got into the water.
Then the men heard a yell. And they looked towards the kayak. They
saw that the kayak had tipped over and the boys were going down
stream. One said, “Come on, lets go get the four-wheeler and I gotta
rope.”
Now the Christian brother was getting ready to jump on the
four-wheeler when the Lord said to him, “NO!.. Fall to your knees
and pray.” So then he tells his brother,
“No, I can’t because the Lord said‘No.’” “What do you mean the Lord said No.
These are our kids! To hell with
you and your God!”
So he took off in the four-wheeler and he caught up with the boys.
The boys were on a piece of drift wood when the dad made a lasso and
swung it to his son and it landed around his neck. The other little
boy pulled at the loop to position it better and got his one arm
through. The dad started pulling him to the shore but his boy went
through the rope and then there were
faster rapids and his boy went
down the falls!
The other boy on the drift wood started drifting to the
calmer part of the river. There
was once a huge tree but the stump still remained. The drift wood
got lodged between there and the bank and the boy was able to get
out.
The uncle saw that and was MAD and he hurried and got on the four
wheeler and went to where his brother was. He jumped off and was
yelling, “I want nothing to do with you and your God. If he can pick
and choose what son he’s going to keep alive, I want nothing to do
with your cruel and evil God!”
When he had finished saying that, the other little boy came running
and said, “Dad!” And went to his father’s arms and started hugging
him.
“How can you still have your son when I’m the one who did all the
work and mine is gone!”
“This is why I’ll always read my word and be obedient.”
I received by faith at random:
Luke 1:37 For no word from God shall be void of power.
Hearing God will save your life, the life of your family, friends,
and loved ones.
Joh 8:47 He that is of God
heareth the words of God: for
this cause ye hear them not, because ye are not of God.
Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that giveth life; the flesh profiteth
nothing:
the words that I have spoken unto you are spirit, and are
life.
Joh 10:27 My sheep
hear my voice, and I know them,
and they follow me:
Luk 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the
word of God, and keep it.
Mat 7:24-27 Every one therefore that
heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, who built his house upon the
rock: 25 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds
blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded
upon the rock. 26 And
every one that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them not,
shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon
the sand: 27 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds
blew, and smote upon that house; and it fell: and
great was the fall thereof.
Jas 1:19-25 Ye know this, my beloved brethren. But let every man be
swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20 for the wrath of man
worketh not the righteousness of God. 21 Wherefore putting away all
filthiness and overflowing of wickedness,
receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be ye doers of the word,
and not hearers only, deluding
your own selves. 23 For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a
doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:
24 for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway
forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But he that looketh into
the perfect law, the law of liberty, and so continueth, being not a
hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be
blessed in his doing.
Heb 2:1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the
things that were heard, lest
haply we drift away from them
Rom 10:17 So belief cometh of hearing, and hearing by the word of
Christ. 1Jn 5:4 For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the
world: and
this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our
faith.
Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall
guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself;
but what things soever he shall hear, these shall he speak: and
he shall declare unto you the things that are to come. Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the
Father will send in my name,
he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance
all that I said unto you. Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are
sons of God.
Act 16:7-10 and when they were come over against Mysia, they assayed
to go into Bithynia; and the Spirit of Jesus suffered them not; 8
and passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. 9 And a vision
appeared to Paul in the night: There was a man of Macedonia
standing, beseeching him, and saying, Come over into Macedonia, and
help us. 10 And when he had seen the vision, straightway we sought
to go forth into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to
preach the gospel to them.
Act 27:8-22 and with difficulty coasting along it we came unto a
certain place called Fair Havens; nigh whereunto was the city of
Lasea. 9 And when much time was spent, and the voyage was now
dangerous, because the Fast was now already gone by, Paul admonished
them, 10 and said unto them,Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much
loss, not only of the lading and the ship, but also of our
lives. 11 But the centurion gave more heed to the master and to the
owner of the ship, than to those things which were spoken by Paul.
12 And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more
part advised to put to sea from thence, if by any means they could
reach Phoenix, and winter there; which is a haven of Crete, looking
north-east and south-east. 13 And when the south wind blew softly,
supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor
and sailed along Crete, close in shore. 14 But after no long time
there beat down from it a tempestuous wind, which is called
Euraquilo: 15 and when the ship was caught, and could not face the
wind, we gave way to it, and were driven. 16 And running under the
lee of a small island called Cauda, we were able, with difficulty,
to secure the boat: 17 and when they had hoisted it up, they used
helps, under-girding the ship; and, fearing lest they should be cast
upon the Syrtis, they lowered the gear, and so were driven. 18 And
as we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to
throw the freight overboard; 19 and the third day they cast out with
their own hands the tackling of the ship. 20 And when neither sun
nor stars shone upon us for many days, and no small tempest lay on
us, all hope that we should be saved was now taken away. 21 And when
they had been long without food, then Paul stood forth in the midst
of them, and said,
Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have set sail
from Crete, and have gotten this injury and loss. 22 And now I exhort you to be of good cheer; for there shall be
no loss of life among you, but
only of the ship.
Job 33:14-18 For
God speaketh once, Yea twice, though man regardeth it not. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, When deep sleep falleth
upon men, In slumberings upon the bed; 16 Then he openeth the ears
of men, And sealeth their instruction, 17 That he may withdraw man
from his purpose, And hide pride from man; 18
He keepeth back his soul from the pit, And his life from
perishing by the sword….23 If there be with him an angel, An interpreter, one among a
thousand, To show unto man what is right for him; 24 Then God is
gracious unto him, and saith,
Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.
2Ti 3:14-17 But abide thou in the things which thou hast learned and
hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 and
that from a babe thou hast known the sacred writings which are able
to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ
Jesus. 16 Every scripture inspired of God is also profitable for
teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in
righteousness: 17 that the man of God may be complete, furnished
completely unto every good work.
Pro 1:23-26 Turn you at my reproof: Behold, I will pour out my
spirit upon you; I will make known my words unto you. 24 Because I
have called, and ye have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and
no man hath regarded; 25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel,
And would none of my reproof: 26 I also will laugh in the day of
your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; … 30 They would
none of my counsel; They despised all my reproof. 31 Therefore shall
they eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled with their own
devices. 32 For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, And
the careless ease of fools shall destroy them. 33 But
who so hearkeneth unto me shall dwell securely, And shall be quiet without fear of evil.
Pro 4:4-6 And he taught me, and said unto me: Let thy heart retain
my words; Keep my commandments, and live; 5 Get wisdom, get
understanding; Forget not, neither decline from the words of my
mouth; 6 Forsake her not, and she will preserve thee; Love her, and
she will keep thee. … 10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; And
the years of thy life shall be many. 11 I have taught thee in the
way of wisdom; I have led thee in paths of uprightness. 12 When thou
goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; And if thou runnest, thou
shalt not stumble. 13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go:
Keep her; for she is thy life. … 20 My son, attend to my words;
Incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine
eyes; Keep them in the midst of thy heart. 22 For they are life unto
those that find them, And health to all their flesh. 23 Keep thy
heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life.
Psa 1:1-6
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the
wicked, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of
scoffers: 2 But his delight is in the law of Jehovah; And on his law
doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree
planted by the streams of water, That bringeth forth its fruit in
its season, Whose leaf also doth not wither; And whatsoever he doeth
shall prosper. 4 The wicked are not so, But are like the chaff which
the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore
the wicked shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For Jehovah
knoweth the way of the righteous; But
the way of the wicked shall perish.
Deu 4:1 And now, O Israel, hearken unto the statutes and unto the
ordinances, which I teach you, to do them; that ye may live, and go
in and possess the land which Jehovah, the God of your fathers,
giveth you…. 10 the day that thou stoodest before Jehovah thy God in
Horeb, when Jehovah said unto me, Assemble me the people, and I will
make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days
that they live upon the earth, and that they may teach their
children.
Neh 9:29 and testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them
again unto thy law. Yet they dealt proudly, and hearkened not unto
thy commandments, but sinned against thine ordinances, (which
if a man do, he shall live in
them,) and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and
would not hear.
Isa 55:3 Incline your ear, and come unto me; hear, and your soul
shall live: and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even
the sure mercies of David.
Deu 28:1-6 And it shall come to pass,
if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of Jehovah thy
God, to observe to do all his commandments which I command thee this
day, that Jehovah thy God will set thee on high above all the
nations of the earth: 2 and all these blessings shall come upon
thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of
Jehovah thy God. 3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed
shalt thou be in the field. 4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy
body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy beasts, the
increase of thy cattle, and the young of thy flock. 5 Blessed shall
be thy basket and thy kneading-trough. 6 Blessed shalt thou be when
thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
Deu 28:15-21 But it shall come to pass,
if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy
God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I
command thee this day, that all these curses shall come upon thee,
and overtake thee. 16 Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed
shalt thou be in the field. 17 Cursed shall be thy basket and thy
kneading-trough. 18 Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the
fruit of thy ground, the increase of thy cattle, and the young of
thy flock. 19 Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed
shalt thou be when thou goest out. 20 Jehovah will send upon thee
cursing, discomfiture, and rebuke, in all that thou puttest thy hand
unto to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly;
because of the evil of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me. 21
Jehovah will make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have
consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest in to possess
it.
Lev 26:3-7 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and
do them; 4 then I will give your rains in their season, and the land
shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield
their fruit. 5 And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and
the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time; and ye shall eat your
bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely. 6 And I will give
peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you
afraid: and I will cause evil beasts to cease out of the land,
neither shall the sword go through your land. 7 And ye shall chase
your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword. … 14 But
if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these
commandments; 15 and if ye shall reject my statutes, and if your
soul abhor mine ordinances, so that ye will not do all my
commandments, but break my covenant; 16 I also will do this unto
you: I will appoint terror over you, even consumption and fever,
that shall consume the eyes, and make the soul to pine away; and ye
shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17 And I
will set my face against you, and ye shall be smitten before your
enemies: they that hate you shall rule over you; and ye shall flee
when none pursueth you. 18 And if ye will not yet for these things
hearken unto me, then I will chastise you seven times more for your
sins.
