John R. Taylor - 05/21/2009 Becky and I had a few small testimonies from recent events that we wanted to share with the ministry and give the Lord the glory for. There are so many things the Lord must be waiting to do for us but we are slow to learn and obey. I am thankful for His mercy and patience with me. Our son, Caleb, has always been a fearful child (he is 2 1/2). He was scared of loud noises (vacuum), deep water, the drive-thru car wash, thunderstorms, etc. He would cry uncontrollably whenever we went through the car wash and when thunder would strike during a storm. Recently, when storms popped up and he would become afraid, my wife would sing this song with him: "I am your God. I am your God, Who holds your right hand, who holds your right hand. And I say to you, 'Do not be afraid, for I will help you'." Well, one day I came home from work and my wife told me how there had been a thunderstorm earlier in the day and that she and Caleb had sung this song. I started to sing the song, thinking he would like it and just the association of the song with the storms caused Caleb to begin to cry and appear upset. Without even thinking about it, I picked him up and prayed "Spirit of fear, I rebuke you in Jesus' Name and command you to leave Caleb. The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear and we do not want you here". There was no immediate change, but the Lord impressed me not to dwell on the fact that I saw no change and just believe His Word. Well, the next weekend we were in Pensacola for Mother's Day. We didn't even think about it while we were there, but once we got back to Georgia, we realized several things had changed. The whole family rode through the car wash over the holiday weekend and Caleb didn't fuss a bit. He even later commented that the "wind" was his favorite part of the car wash and that is the noisiest part. Normally, as soon as he sees we are at the car wash, he starts talking about how he wants to get out of the vehicle. There was a storm over the weekend and when the lightning and thunder started, Caleb didn't cry or run to Mommy or Daddy; rather, he walked right to the front glass door to look outside. We spent part of the weekend with my wife's family on the beach for Mother's Day and Caleb went out farther than normal and even fell in the water a few times, causing him to breathe a little in, but did not get upset and just kept playing. I praise the Lord for putting in me what was needed to deliver Caleb from fear. On the same trip, our daughter, Sarah, had expressed an interest in going out to pick blackberries. But due to an overall lack of rain, the berries were still red. We drove by all the spots we know to have blackberry bushes but could only find a handful of berries, total, among numerous places. Finally, I was tired of looking and told Sarah to pray and ask God to give us a good place for picking berries before we left town. We all forgot about looking for the berries until the last day we were there. We were pulling up to my grandmother's house to visit for a bit and my wife was looking out her window. The neighbor's yard across the street is very "natural". Wouldn't you know it, there were several vines right next to the sidewalk that were flush with the biggest, juiciest berries you could ask for (in our neck of the woods, anyway). It was a great opportunity to share the Lord's faithfulness, even in small things, with our daughter. Thank you, Lord.
