The Lord, My Protector

Belinda Anderson - 04/14/2012

This morning, I got up early to go down to the lake to pray, like I usually do. I have to go through the door of the den to get to the family room door that leads to outside. As I opened the den door, I smelled smoke. I looked to my left and I saw black ashes all over the middle of the room. One of the chairs was pretty well burned up and the table lamp sustained a lot of damage. For a few seconds I started to believe the "bad report" but the Lord put these scriptures into my thoughts:

(Isa.43:2) When thou passeth through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

(2Co.12:9) And he hath said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my power is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Well, I couldn't have been any more powerless, as I was asleep as all this was happening. There's nothing I could have done to save myself. What really makes this interesting is I'm a very light sleeper. It doesn't take much to wake me up. At first I was surprised that the smell of smoke didn't wake me up. We have a lot of fires going on right now here in Florida. The Ocala Forest is on fire and we have been smelling smoke for awhile. I've gotten up at night and gone outside to check out the smoke a few times, so I was surprised the smoke from the family room fire didn't wake me up. Now I know this was God's plan for me. He wanted me to know that He is watching over me and protecting me continually. Isn't that just awesome?!

This is the second time in the past three weeks the Lord has physically saved me from harm. A few weeks ago, my husband and I were heading back home after helping a friend. We went to pull out on the highway and a lady was coming at us head-on in our lane. I immediately cried out to the Lord to protect us. It was awesome; it looked like a hand just reached out and pushed her van over just enough to skim right by us. My husband looked over at me and asked, "How on earth did she miss us?" I said to him, "Is the Lord's hand too short to save?" I thought the whole thing was neat because I didn't get fearful. The Lord has brought me a long long way in this area of my faith.

The Lord has been doing a lot of good works in my life lately. He has really been showing me not only His power to save and protect but His power to provide, as well. I know beyond any doubt whatsoever that the Lord and not me, will provide for my every need. I have every confidence and trust in the Lord that during the tribulation, the Lord will take care of me. Oh, it's so wonderful resting in the Lord; what peace and joy.

Oh, and the Lord did me a wonderful favor. I did not like that ugly chair and table lamp. A friend of my husband gave those things to him so my husband accepted them. So, as a submissive and loving wife, I didn't say anything. I think the Lord rewarded me for my obedience! :o)

I love the Lord's sense of humor. Don't you?
